Story Book

My supervisor set me the task of creating a Storybook version of Grimly first. This has been immensely helpful in clearly visualising weather or not the story worked and how it could be told visually. This excercise led me to ammending the sotry I had originally pitched, into a cleaner, simpler and more effective story, which I (and others) felt had a lot more depth than the original story. I have been looking at the storybook versions of Tangled and The Nightmare Before Christmas for inpiration.

Rustboy

Inspiration - Rustboy is a really viasually breathtaking film that a dark, isolated mood and has excellent staging and lighting.

Sometimes The Stars

Inspiration -Sometimes the Stars evokes a melancholy mood of isolation that is similar to the kind of mood I would like to explore in Grimly. In particular, the vast, dark landscapes work well to heighten the sense of loneliness, whilst still being surreal and beautiful.

Supervisor feedback -The background elements such as smoke and clouds are on different layers and moving at different frame rates, which works very effectively.
-Consider designing a simple character to contrast against complex backgrounds, such as in this film.
